Church bells

I stepped out of the office this morning – where sometimes I am met with the smell of salty air or the cry of a seagull. This time, I heard the sound of church bells playing “All Hail the Power.” It brought me back to the pews of my childhood and the smell of well-used, dingy hymnals. I found myself closing my eyes and singing the different verses: “Let every kindred, every tribe, on this terrestrial ball to him all majesty ascribe and crown him Lord of all.” I enjoyed the fact that I now understood what that meant, and I remembered how much I love church bells.

Why they ring the bells, I understand – we all want to change the atmosphere. To send something out and not just remain quiet about your faith. Sometimes I feel futile in my attempt to make a change because you rarely see it add up to something you can hold. However, you never know who is out there listening and being encouraged.
